New York City Maternity and Family Photographer Trisha Mother of the Month - May

Every month I take a look at our past maternity photography or family photography clients and highlight a mother who I find inspiring and find out a little more about her story. This month's mother is Trisha Kiblinger. Trisha started with maternity photography back in 2012 in New York, and has come to me for her second pregnancy and for all her family photography. And Trisha changed my life, for the better.

Trisha was a huge influence on me when I was considering, more like waffling back and forth about whether or not I should have a baby. I am an older mom; I wasn't sure I could handle it; I wasn't sure I would make it. But I did, and I am indebted to Trisha for her wisdom, kindness and grace. Largely because of her words, I have Morrison in my life today.

1. Tell me a little bit about yourself, Andrew, and how you met. What are your hobbies, what you do in your free time, etc.

Andrew and I met through a friend here in NYC. We were friends for five years before we started our relationship, were engaged and decided to have children. Early in our friendship we discovered we both had a love for Butoh dance, a Japanese form of dance/theater. I was once a member of a Butoh dance company and Andrew had lived in Japan, where he learned about the art form. Butoh is a bit obscure, so our mutual fondness created an immediate connection. We started attending performances together, then dinner dates, then travel and now we have two beautiful young children and a loving, evolving relationship with each other. We love living in Brooklyn and exploring everything around us- in the city and beyond. Art, music and travel have been an essential part of our lives and we will continue this exploration with our children.

2. Tell me about why you have me take photos, and why you trusted me to take these special photos.

When I was pregnant with our first daughter, I decided I wanted to have pregnancy photographs taken. I wanted that time captured and wanted to have documentation to give to our daughter.  I searched online for photographers, and when I found Jennifer Loomis photography, my decision was made. I wanted a creative approach. I wanted the feeling of my pregnancy captured and not just a picture. The result was several beautiful images that captured the beauty of pregnancy, a brief experience that to me is magical. Using film and quality paper made each photograph more of an art piece than just a photograph of my pregnant self. The baby and family photos we have done with both of our daughters capture their beautiful spirits and the connection between all of us. I am so grateful I have the photos. There is a part of me that wants to freeze in every moment I have with my family. There is so much love between us. The innocence of our children expands my heart every day. I love looking at the photos hanging in our home- they always make me smile.

3. Please feel free to include anything else you like that is interesting about you or your parenting philosophy.

In regard to parenting, we are figuring it out as we go along and enjoying the journey. For me, co-sleeping (also known as night time parenting) has been a highlight of my motherhood experience. A family bed seems completely natural to me- I cannot imagine any other way. As newborns, with both of our daughters, having them sleep close to me made perfect sense. And now that our eldest daughter is two and a half, we see the positive effects. She is a very secure young child with just the right amount of attachment. She is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. Some nights I do find myself cuddled between both of our girls. This makes me very happy as I know this time is fleeting.
