ABOUT JENNIFER
Jennifer Loomis is a Fine Art Maternity and Family Photographer who opened her first studio in 2001. A pioneer in Maternity Photography, Jennifer is a published author, educator, and speaker, having photographed over 5,000 women and their families, including celebrities and sports figures.
With a Master’s in Photojournalism, Jennifer previously traveled to East Africa, Japan, and Central Asia, capturing images for clients like The Gates Foundation and USAID. Recently, she shifted her focus to public art, receiving a grant from Seattle to photograph essential workers.
Jennifer loves people and their stories, weaving this passion into her photography. A mother herself at 46, her training enables her to capture precious, fleeting moments. She believes that the photographs you hang on your wall will be cherished and serve as lasting reminders to your children and family of your love for them.
ARTIST STATEMENT
For over 20 years, my passion has been photographing pregnant individuals, babies, children, and families. As a photojournalist, I am trained to capture fleeting moments—a smile, an embrace, a laugh, or a gesture. Whether it's a pregnant person alone, with their partner, a baby, siblings, or a family of six, I am dedicated to preserving these special moments.
I prefer using simple backgrounds, solid-colored clothes, and black and white photography to let the essence of the family shine through. During sessions, I give simple directions, asking questions like "How do you hug your child, wife, partner, or husband?" I also love letting kids be kids—capturing them as they laugh, play, or whisper to each other. My aim is to capture great expressions, sweeping compositions, and unique moments. I strive to create dynamic images that are not only iconic but also avoid cliches. When I look at the photos I create with my clients, I want to feel joy, laughter, and marvel at the beauty of a pregnant belly, the light shining through hair, or the loving smile of a mother to her child.
I help clients create large photo walls filled with memories that bring daily joy. Recent work has taken me outdoors to capture families walking and interacting in their favorite places, such as parks, yards, or orchards. These site-specific images are printed large and framed in a modern style, often hung solo on a central wall in the client’s home, above a fireplace or other significant location. Collaborating with interior designers, I create unique and magical pieces for each family.
I primarily use natural light with minimal digital alteration, and I still believe in the darkroom, offering Gelatin Silver Fiber prints. These handmade prints are archival and one-of-a-kind, ensuring they will never fade or discolor with age. My goal is to capture the special moments and stories of a family, creating heirlooms that will be cherished for generations to come.

GELATIN SILVER PRINTS
With a focus on preserving your prestigious legacy, Jennifer Loomis Photography has offered the exclusive Gelatin Silver Fiber print and the rare Selenium or Sepia Toned Gelatin Silver Fiber print for over 20 years. These prints are highly sought-after as collectible museum pieces, cherished by connoisseurs of fine art black and white photography.
Gelatin Silver Prints and Sepia or Selenium Toned Silver Prints, known as Silver Gelatin Fiber Prints, are celebrated as the pinnacle of black and white photography.
Each Gelatin Silver print is meticulously handcrafted in the darkroom using techniques dating back to the 1880s, where silver halides are suspended in a layer of gelatin on fiber-based paper. Every print is unique, made individually and inspected for perfect contrast, density, and exposure.
Gelatin Silver Fiber Prints are guaranteed to maintain their quality for more than 100 years, while Selenium-Toned prints are guaranteed for even longer. These prints offer an exceptional range of grays and silvers, true black and white tones, and remain pristine for centuries with minimal tonal erosion and no color shift, unlike modern photographic prints.
Due to the limited availability of the toner used, Selenium-toned prints are exceptionally rare, and only a select number of labs worldwide still produce Gelatin Silver prints.
At Jennifer Loomis Photography, we understand the importance of creating lasting legacies. The images we capture are not just photographs—they are visual heirlooms and valuable assets, worthy of being treasured by your family for generations to come.
