Our photography sessions are all unique experiences that are made even more special with your creative contributions. Please feel free to bring along any clothing or fabric that has a special meaning or makes you feel beautiful Also you are welcome to bring partners, children and pets. Jennifer's dog, Salvador, gets bored during the day and welcomes friends. Each studio has antique kimonos, long beautiful fabrics from around the world that are cleaned and pressed specially for each shoot. But your ideas are always welcome. If you aren't sure, just bring it or call one of us. (Usage of fabrics in maternity photography started with Jennifer, look at how many people have taken to the idea.)
The length of your session depends on the type of shoot you choose. We have several options depending on what you are looking for. Please see the sessions we offer to find the right one for you and your family.
When to schedule
Please plan on scheduling your photography session six to ten weeks before your due date. Of course if you are closer than that, just give us a call. We have been known to do some creative scheduling to fit you in. We even had a woman go into labor during the shoot. The baby was born that night, the same day her photos were taken! We are by appointment only. If you don't hear back from us within two business days, please call or email again because, on occasion, technology blips we'll prevent us from receiving your inquiry.
Special tips for preparing for your session

How to prepare for a successful maternity photography session
- Schedule your photo session on a day that you, your partner and your children (if they are going to be in the shoot) will be relaxed
and well rested. Try not to schedule too many appointments on that day
before or after the shoot.
- At least two hours before our shoot, please try to remove anything
with elastic, such as a tight shirt, pants, underwear or a bra to
prevent strap marks from appearing on your skin.
- Eat a light snack before the shoot.
- Make-up should be light and natural looking. A light foundation,
blush etc. to even out skin tones is perfect. Too much eyeliner or eye
shadow can look very dark on film. If you want us to recommend a professional do your make-up, please allow us to make a recommendation.
Special jewelry is a nice accessory to the photographs, though too
much jewelry can be distracting. If you have any questions, just bring
it along.
- Hair should be fixed so you are comfortable with it. Some mothers
prefer to go to a stylist before the shoot; others prefer to fix their
hair on their own.If you want us to have a stylist during your shoot, please let us know.
- Feel free to bring anything that you feel good in or want to be included in the
photograph, including flowers or special clothing, such as scarves,
shawls, veils.
- If you are being photographed with your partner, please have him/her
bring or wear dark pants and a solid dark shirt, long or short sleeved
is fine. Mothers should bring a dark maternity skirt and black
cardigan sweater and tank top -- something to cover the breasts but still
expose the belly.
- If the shoot is in your home, only the family should be present to
prevent distractions.
How to prepare for a successful family photography session
- Schedule your photo session on a day that you or your children will
be relaxed and well rested. Find a time that will work well with
naps. Babies and toddlers are often at their best right after a nap.
- Have everyone eat a light snack before the shoot. There is time
during the shoot for breast feeding if it is needed.
- Clothing should be a solid color except white, without writing or
branding, unless that is the purpose of the shoot. If in doubt, just
bring it and we can decide while we are shooting.
- Make-up and jewelry are fine, though lots of jewelry can be
distracting. But if in doubt just bring it and we can decide when we
are shooting.
- On the day of our shoot, mothers should consider not wearing a bra to prevent marks from the bra straps if photographs with the baby are
taken with only skin showing.
- Bring the babies and children's favorite toys to help distract them
if they should become fussy.
- If the shoot is in your home, only the family and nannies should be
present to prevent distractions.
