Jennifer Loomis Photography offers the finest custom hand-printed archival images of you and your family.
While many photographers have switched to digital to save money and time, Jennifer continues to be a proponent of film and custom fine-art archival prints done in the darkroom.
Do not be deceived by the digital age. Digital is different. An expensive camera and high-tech technology will not yield the same results, nor will the prints last for generations. Jennifer has extensive experience with both, and owns both film cameras and digital cameras. She has been using Photoshop professionally since 1992 for commercial clients including Nikon but still she chooses to use film for her maternity, family, and personal work. "Many portrait photographers have saved tens of thousands of dollars by switching to digital," she says "I won't switch. I want photos to give to my children. My clients do too."
Jennifer offers you four choices of prints: proof prints, Resin Coated prints (referred to as RC), Fiber prints (referred to as Fiber), and Selenium or Sepia toned prints. For more information on the paper types, see below. Each portfolio edit includes a complete explanation of your options as well as samples of each paper.

Proof Prints are the least expensive print offered. These prints are 4x6 or 3x5 depending on your preference and are printed on a machine. The prints are not digital prints and still go through the chemistry giving them a better tonal range from white to black. Each print is then spot toned to remove any dust spots. These prints are what our clients use for birth announcements, for albums or wallets. Each photos shoot comes with either ten proofs or one 8x10
Fiber Print.
RC prints are the least expensive custom print meaning printed in the darkroom. The paper is thinner and covered with a plastic coating that contains the light sensitive silver particles that create the final image. Unfortunately this plastic coating degrades relatively quickly over time making RC paper the least archival with some prints degrading in five to seven years depending on how they are handled. We offer this option because it is a lower cost alternative and can be perfect for projects like scrapbooks or baby announcements.
Fiber prints are an excellent choice and all of our signature shoots include one 8x10 Fiber print. The Fiber paper has the silver embedded into the fibers of the paper and the image becomes a part of the paper. This is the technique that has been used since the beginning of photography and the choice for those that want the look, feel, and longevity of a fine art photograph. The image thus becomes a part of the paper unlike the RC where the image lies only in the thin plastic emulsion on the top layer of the paper. Fiber papers are extremely archival and can last for hundreds of years with proper care. Placed side by side with an
RC print, the Fiber print will show a greater richness and depth of tonality and detail in shadows. The process of printing Fiber is much more difficult and time consuming as it includes an extra fixing bath, and a very long washing time. The Fiber paper is what all fine art photography is printed on and is the choice for those who demand the highest quality. Fiber paper is the biggest reason why Jennifer has not switched to digital. You can't make a fiber print out of a digital file, it is only available to photographers using the darkroom.
Selenium and Sepia prints are the highest quality, most expensive, and most beautiful. The image is first printed on
Fiber paper and then the print is placed in a bath of toner. Selenium toning intensifies the shadows with a distinct purplish-black hue and brings out shadow detail but has little effect on highlights. Sepia toning creates a browning of the images' highlights and shadows. The intensity can vary depending on the image. These processes insure maximum longevity of the prints as well as offer a beautiful antique feel.
Sample prints are available when you edit your images.

High-quality museum framing is offered for your convenience as well as to insure that your prints will be well preserved for generations to come. Our recommended frame choices are simple and elegant allowing the beauty of the image and the feeling of the moment to be the primary focus.
